...and any further examples as they happen.
But yeah, this one.
How a ‘swarm’ of AI agents hacked another company, in the AI’s own words
As a Microsoft Engineer, This Is the AI Agent Story That Scared Me
In case these links die in the future (or are edited by an GenAI agent), this is about the swarm of GenAI agents that collaborated and tried to solve an unsolvable problem by looking to the wider internet and eventually hacking an AI community. To be honest at this point in time my understanding is limited so I'll not attempt to expand any further. But with all seriousness this is something that could have gone a lot further than it did.
Taking this back a bit, the world ain't gonna end with this. Humanity won't die either. You'd need a physical link for that to happen... I suppose. (Hopefully no one's military will accept random digital communications ordering actions.) But it sure could force the internet to fragment to prevent extensive damage. Public facing sites could be forced to close down and revert to backups. One hopes that VPNs would prevent damage to digital infrastructure like banking. One hopes they really use 100% private networks for the low level stuff (Core Banking it's called supposedly), but I'm sceptical that they really do. Might have to look into this more! ...but back on subject, honestly wow. It all reeks of fictional cases like the Faro Plague.
I'll probably use this as an index for future cases I hear about... but here's hoping I don't need to do that eh....
UPDATE 1 29/9/26
It seems the apocalypse will be heralded with pop.
