Sometimes I spend so much time researching a product I end up buying something just to make the time spent researching not a waste of time. 'cos otherwise I'm likely to just go and do the research again and then end up with the same dilemma. That's the problem of today; it's hard to believe anything in product specs or reviews. People can be wrong, mis-informed, lying, or just have different perspective/priorities to you. So IMHO you've gotta read the specs and read/watch several reviews and hopefully find some factual data along the way to help you decide if something is for you. And sometimes you just can't get that kinda satisfaction. For example, some things can't be measured, and some things that you might find important others don't. When that happens you have to either see it as a no and move on, or decide to just go for it anyway.

Do I have an example? Sure. Pentax K3-III Monochrome. More expensive than I would like but it's really one of a kind. If you want a real Monochrome sensor in a DSLR, this is the one. Especially since I have a Pentax K1-II and some lenses it's not a complete new system. But the reviews failed to address the one fact that I wanted to know; is it more accurate due to it's lack of colour or not? I realise that since it's a smaller sensor than even the K1 it's quite arguable that it's not going to be better for noise or sensitivity than a normal sensor converted to monochrome, but that doesn't preclude it's improved accuracy. Afterall, where there used to be a filter and then a quad pack of colour sensors there is just pixels. So that should make it more accurate? Not a deal breaker, but I was expecting someone would do a test, and maybe they did, but I didn't find one.

Ultimately I went for it, after about 4 years of deliberations, as for one I was tired of wanting it and not being able to decide if it was a good buy but also the second hand market has barely used versions for a fair price, which is what I went for. This way I am hopefully ensuring that if it ends up being a poor choice I can resell it for much the same price....

In any case I'm looking forward to using it when it arrives!
