Don't get a job as a professional programmer if you want to stay healthy.

Wow. This one was short. Hmm... maybe I'll expand. (No joke intended, but maybe I shouldn't confess about that.)

Continuing on from my last rant I've had issues with weight management for some time. Having an active job helped with this, but things change and I eventually got a job as a programmer which involved spending 8+ hours a day sitting down. Sometimes we'd work all night. The I did for 12 years (roughly 9 more than planned) and I soon realised that it was making me very unhealthy. I needed to eat and drink loads of caffeine to make it though each day, but I didn't have time to exercise much when I got home. I tried to go for long walks every day, but that really didn't help much... and sometimes I skipped on the walks in an effort to get home on time.

Really had enough of this after 10 years, so I decided to go back to my old job where physical activity was included/required, as I was starting to doubt I would survive another few years of bodily abuse.

Was it all in time and has it worked? Can't be 100% sure to be honest. I have eye issues that could be caused by staring at a screen all day, but it could just be 'cos I am12 years older. Similar story with back issues. But I am able to keep my strength and weight at a better level. But at this point in time, sad to say, I do need to keep a close eye on my weight and do additional exercise.
