It's funny how collections evolve. I've been collecting things for a while, heck as a kid I collected pamphlets. What of? Anything really. In hindsight this must have annoyed many stores. This has led me to think of how you can define a collection. My current thoughts are;
- Starting: You have a few of a certain thing in a certain genre but you don't see it as a collection.
- Acknowledgement: You've decided you have a collection.
- Organisation: You have enough of collection that you've decided you need to organise it for order/protection/display.
- More organisation: The last stage isn't enough. You've now, for example, got better ones that need to be displayed better, and others that are archived.
- Reduction: Selling to put back funds into the collection and/or to reduce display volume.
- Specialisation: Realising that you're so into one certain aspect of the collection that you'd rather focus on that rather than the whole.

This whole train of thought was brought on as I'm back in the military and I've got a growing collection of velcro patches and I bought a display board....
