Employing a fitness strategy
 2026-02-20

Don't get a job as a professional programmer if you want to stay healthy.

Wow. This one was short. Hmm... maybe I'll expand. (No joke intended, but maybe I shouldn't confess about that.)

Continuing on from my last rant I've had issues with weight management for some time. Having an active job helped with this, but things change and I eventually got a job as a programmer which involved spending 8+ hours a day sitting down. Sometimes we'd work all night. The I did for 12 years (...)

Final Fantasy of Fitness
 2025-11-28

When I decided that I needed to do more than just weight training to keep myself at my ideal weight luck was on my side. Final Fantasy XIII just came out. The relevance? It was something to do while I was on an exercise bike. For better or worse the combat system was very playable with minimal button presses. It was more strategic and timing based. Thus I cut back on some food, kept doing weights, and I played Final Fantasy XIII for hours. Was it the most efficient way to burn (...)

De-fatting the chew
 2025-10-24

Keeping my weight at (what I see as) a healthy state has been hard for me. Not crazy hard, but I keep finding I lose weight and then it comes back as my life gets in the way. When I was less not young I never had an issue, but that could have simply been 'cos I was poor.... Once I got a job I found people where saying stuff like "you're filling out" and I since was so in my headspace that I couldn't get fat it took me months to realise that fact was no longer true. By then I was busy in the (...)

Need a bigger day
 2025-10-17

So yeah, as expected no programming progress was made. Sux really. I did loads of software testing, and made some solid decisions on the future of SiegSpace.com, but even the news is still not fully transferred and I still haven't finished sorting though the photos I've taken. (I'm close; Intrepid Museum, and two locations around Fredericksburg. So maybe three or four batches? Although Intrepid could take a while....) But, (...)

Not stealing this bike
 2025-10-03

Excluding the one I have safely in my garage back home, every one of my old bikes has been stolen. (Even one that I gave away to someone else...) One while I was at a movie, one that was locked in my shed, three that were in my backyard and not locked (long suspicious story there)... but at last I've managed to keep one long enough to sell. My secret? I only had it for three months. I'm leaving where I am for another place prior to going back home, and there's no way to (...)

Science of maintaining a healthy weight
 2025-09-12

What? Yeah. I can do any topic I want here.

Right now I'm away from home, mostly by myself, 'cos of work. For about 5 months. It's a while yeah, but I've been trying to take advantage of it all, and one of my major goals has been to learn more about what weight management techniques work for me ...and probably to a lesser extent you! Normally some aspects, such as meal replacement/modification/skipping, are a bit anti social as it would mean never eating with my family. But as I said (...)

An exercise in time management and priorities

Back in June I got back to this internet thing. I never really left, I just stopped making visible changes. So I stopped stopping. I had plans to get back to a rapid Beta release cycle so I could then finish this whole 1.9 thing started many moons ago. But due to many reasons, mostly website updates, photos and exercise, that has not happened. In reality, it's not going to happen now for several months as (...)
