Beware the remote desktop password fail
Got my server mostly done now. But one issue has made things complicated; my inability to use Microsoft Remote Desktop on my default profile. To expand, I made my server from the innards of my older desktop to save money. This was the plan before the memory crisis, and by the time I did it, the plan made even more sense. Thus my default profile was active and had on it several years of usage. Stuff I lost unexpectantly when I turned my desktop into the server. It all came out of no where, (...)
Recycled PS5 is alive
...so the BC-250 worked out fine. Funny stuff really. I bought it as I wanted a PS5 chip for geek value, but since I was overseas at the time I didn't do anything with it, came back and loads of smart people did all the hard work for me. It's now pretty much a case of "install Bazzite and use Steam"... all you need to work out youself is how you're going to power and cool it. Which is where I'm at. If you can find one cheap and have spare power supplies and or a case I suggest getting one (...)
The science of shopping research
Was doing some shopping research… it is that time of year afterall… and I was looking into a subject I know little about. E-ink writing tablets. I find these pretty cool, but really I don’t like writing so it’s no really for me. As a result I’m not really up to date with what’s a good buy. I knew of the well promoted ones and that seemed the best option, and I know of the companies that I’d assume would make one, but that’s about it. (Not going to name too many names here (...)
Pass the parts
So how's New Nas November going? Well it's December now, but yeah, it all went well. Still ongoing kinda though, so the final assessment of the Jonsbo N5 will have to wait a bit. Why is this? Well this whole server plan got complicated fast. As I said earlier, the new server become a priority as the server got old and died, forcing me to replace it with an even older machine. This created problem A; I didn't really want to go for a traditional NAS server (...)
Five Months of Windows
I was out of the country and as a result my Windows 10 based server was on without a reboot for months. 5 months. I was rather stressed about it as I've never tested Windows 10 that long, but it did make it. During this time it was running as the house server and running some file management programs written by Sinner Computing and yeah... I got back and it was all running fine. Explorer had crashed and but it was all fine.
(Why no auto-reboots? 'cos I've blocked them. Why? My (...)
Build a better contact
Ahhh, contact pages. I'll have to make a giant rant about this one day, but for now a small rant will suffice. I've generally tried to have one. Direct EMails are just a spam pit, even today with better spam protection. But many contact pages/forms are not much better and often they get hacked in some way. SinnerComputing still has one and it's generally not mis-used, but at the same time I think people don (...)
New NAS November
Before my storage needs exploded I used to have a server that was based on an old computer with a hard drive or two. But due to a combination of increasing photo/video file sizes and slower hard drive density the one or two drives soon became three or four, and the cases I used became a limitation. Thus in 2011 when my then server died without warning I bought my first computer intended for that purpose from the start.
Money was a bit tight at time so I got a machine (...)
