So how's New Nas November going? Well it's December now, but yeah, it all went well. Still ongoing kinda though, so the final assessment of the Jonsbo N5 will have to wait a bit. Why is this? Well this whole server plan got complicated fast. As I said earlier, the new server become a priority as the server got old and died, forcing me to replace it with an even older machine. This created problem A; I didn't really want to go for a traditional NAS server system. Mostly as I'll still be using it as a Windows machine an thus any system designed for Linux or similar might not work as well as I'd like. But then there was problem B; I don't like to buy cheap computers as they end up being inflexible. So after a good think about it I decided to use my (at the time) current desktop motherboard/CPU/cooler/memory as the server and just buy a new power supply, case and SAS expander. That I did, and it's mostly done, I'm just in the middle of sorting drives prior to the final drive setup. When that's done I'll clean up the case and probably make a rant.
But, back on topic, that left me without a desktop. That's kept me busy this week, it's mostly done, (using it right now,) and I'll probably rant about that soon.
But, back on topic, I'm now in the process of looking at what I have left and seeing what I can upgrade/create with the freed up parts. I've got a Git server, for example, that could be improved. I've been wanting to make a new router. I've also got one of those PS5 crypto mining cards that I want to turn into a computer of a sort for... reasons... and yeah. So in short I've got 2-5 more computers to build now. It's one of the things I love about PCs. Even old they have so much uses... proving you don't buy cheap ones that is!
